Description:

This is the southwestern region of the Sun made in the late morning of Thursday, October 12th, 2023 in North Potomac, Maryland. It includes sunspot AR3462 and prominences on the Sun's southwestern limb. The H-alpha image was made with a 1965 Questar Quartz 3.5-inch Standard Mak-Cass telescope with a Baader dielectric energy rejection filter, a TeleVue 2.5x Powermate, a DayStar Quark Chromosphere Combo H-alpha filter and a ZWO AS174MM camera. Two 500-frame captures were made, one of the Prominences at a higher exposure and another of the surface with the histogram at about 60% using SharpCap 4.0, followed by 300 frames of flats. The captures were processed in Autostakkert! 3 using the best 50 frames from each of the 500-frame captures, followed by wavelet processing in Registax 6. The resulting images were then combined and refined in Adobe CS5.
