Description:
IC405 (also known as Star Flaming Nebula, Sh2-229, or Caldwell 31) is an emission and reflection nebula in the Constellation Auriga, about 1690 light-years (500pc) far away from the Solar System. The Nebula is composed of gas (mostly Hydrogen and Sulphur, and less Oxygen) ionized by the variable star AE Aurigae, whose blue light is reflected by the dust surrounding the star in the heart of IC405. AE Aurigae is a runaway star; it was born in the Orion Nebula about 2.7 million years ago and might have been ejected during a collision between two binary star groups. It’s about 1300 l.y. from us. The picture took several nights, because of weather and light pollution, which reduces the slice of sky photographable from my home garden. Both Hubble and Bicolor palettes were processed.
