Description:

These three bright nebulae are a classic of the summer sky located near the center of the Milky Way. The group consists of the large M8, or Lagoon Nebula, the colorful M20 or Trifid, and NGC 6558, on the left of M8 and separated from it by a dark dust lane. The shot was taken remotely from Chile, where these objects are at the zenith, and combines "narrow-band" shots of the nebulae's main emissions, Ha and OIII, with broadband data to better highlight dust, stars and the objects' "natural" colors.
