14-06-25 - My First Solar Halo!☀️#2 The image records an atmospheric phenomenon observed yesterday in the Amor area, Leiria. A 22° solar halo that forms when sunlight is refracted by ice crystals suspended in high cirrus clouds. A white, segmented, linear band can also be seen in the lower right corner. This appearance is typical of contrails, which are formed by ice crystals generated by aircraft exhaust gases at high altitudes (usually above 8,000 meters), where the temperature is very low.
