Description:
As noted by other sites and the news, the pinwheel M101 has a super nova. This was discovered by a Japanese amateur astronomer around May 21, 2023. It was a good surprise to witness such an event. The night was suffering from smoke coming from the west and covering the night sky. The supernova was named SN2023ixf. M101 is just north of the tail of the big dipper.
