Description:

This was my first bright Supernova taken in 2024 and the only one from my home observatory. We are close to the heart of the Virgo Cluster, about 55 million years away from us. Here is NGC 4216, an intermediate spiral galaxy. On January 4, 2024, a type Ia Supernova was discovered by Koichi Itagaki. Its magnitude at discovery was 15.8, but its brightness continued to grow until mag. 13.2 when this picture was taken. The image is the sum of 3x10 frames of 180" using RGB filters
