Description:

My mother's favorite flower was the Iris. For her last several years before she passed away at 100.5 years old, I would image and send her this Galactic Iris on her birthday. I still shoot it every year since. This is NGC7023, The Iris Nebula. It is surrounded with spectacular swirling clouds of dark clouds in various states of colorful reflected light. Every year, I get a little better with my technique. This image was taken over 3 nights the first week of September, 2022. 66 total frames of 5-minutes each (5.5 hours of exposure) shot at f/2 thru a Celestron 14" EdgeHD with Hyperstar. An Optolong L-Pro filter was used to optimize both the blue emission nebula and surrounding dark reflection clouds. Camera is the ZWO ASI6200mc one-shot-color full-frame.
