Description:

JUPITER and VENUS in conjunction taken only with a Nikon - and in daylight - on the top of the dome of the Basilica dei st. Peter and st. Paul in Rome, 2 March 2023 at 15:45 UT. Apparently this shot seems empty, but if you look closely, there are two dots that have been the protagonists of the sky all over the world these days for their long kiss. They appear dim because at the time of the shot the Sun was still 14° above the horizon. Only Venus is visible to the naked eye in daylight. To make their recovery even more suggestive I went to the foot of the Basilica of St. Pietro e St. Paolo, famous for its dome of 32m in diameter and above all for its height of over 114m which makes it the second tallest church in the capital after st. Peter. Clouds loomed and without binoculars and a telescope, I could only try to spot Venus with the naked eye. And luckily with the help of Stellarium, after 2 minutes there it is not far from the dome. Moving then a few meters, I placed myself in the exact point of the square from which the planet seemed to touch the angel placed at the top of the church. And zooming in on Venus, Jupiter also appears next to him on the screen of the machine, just to the south, like a ghost dot. ISO800 - 1/2000s - single shot
