Sky Publishing, a New Track Media company and publisher of astronomy periodicals and books, announced today the launch of its new Web site,, like its predecessor, continues to offer the same helpful observing tips and how-to articles that our audience has come to expect. The new site, however, showcases additional features and functionality, such as astrophotography galleries, interactive hobby Q&A, polls, podcasts, trivia questions, blogs, RSS feeds, news feeds from wire sources, and more equipment coverage, including new-product announcements, a telescope buyer's guide, and a classifieds section. JavaScript utilities will help observers track Jupiter's Great Red Spot, predict the locations of Saturn's moons, and learn the phase of the Moon for any night past, present, or future. The site also offers visitors the opportunity to submit comments, photos, events, club information, and to become an active part of this astronomical community.

Sky Publishing named former Sky & Telescope associate editor David Tytell as Web Producer of " isn't just a redesign of — we've changed our approach to covering astronomy news online," says Tytell. "Expect to see far more observing- and product-related stories — for both beginning stargazers and seasoned astronomers. Unlike our old site, which focused primarily on space news, is a place where members of the astronomical community can come together to share their love of the night sky with each other and with the broader public."

"One of the more challenging tasks for magazine publishers is building a Web site that complements and enhances the print product, yet also serves a broader audience of stargazing enthusiasts who are not subscribers," says Marcy McCreary, vice president of marketing and business development for Sky Publishing. "We'll soon be unveiling a new area on the site called 'Beyond the Printed Page,' which will feature an extension to magazine articles, in the form of additional content, podcasts, and videos." There are other tie-ins to Sky publishing's magazines. For example, Sky & Telescope's Beautiful Universe 2007 edition will feature winners from a Web-based photo contest. The contest call for entries coincides with the launch of the site.

Sky Publishing chose Clickability's content-management system, cmPublish, as the platform for the site.
