Comet C/2009 R1 McNaught, the 51st comet to bear the name of Robert H. McNaught (Siding Spring Observatory, Australia), promises to brighten to 7th or even 6th magnitude during the Moon-free period in the middle of June 2010. Unfortunately, it will be visible only low in the predawn sky from mid-northern latitudes.

We will post more about the comet as its apparition approaches. Meanwhile you can follow its progress at the International Comet Quarterly and Seiichi Yoshida's website.
