Upcoming Astronomy Events
As a service to our community, Sky & Telescope lists astronomy-related events, including star parties, observatory public nights, astronomy talks, and more. Star parties offer dark skies and astronomical fellowship and often cater to families and feature special activities for kids. Public nights give the general public a chance to view the sky through large telescopes, and public talks are a great place to learn the fundamentals of the science and the craft.
You’ll also see online events offered here.

Big Lagoon State Park Deep Sky Gazes
November 13, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 11:00 pm EDT
Free, but normal park admission fees apply; be sure to check in before sunset!Over the winter, the Florida State Parks welcome the Escambia Amateur Astronomers to lead stargazes for campers and the public biweekly at Big Lagoon State Park. We hand out star charts, conduct constellation tours, observe the moon, satellites, planets and deep sky objects, depending on moon phase. We teach beginners to use their smartphones for astrophotography either through our telescopes or for constellation shots and ISS passes. We demonstrate telescopes in a variety of price ranges and advanced techniques in astrophotography that produce astounding results in front of your eyes. Be sure to check in the gate BEFORE SUNSET! We set up telescopes at the north end of the boat ramp parking lot. Be sure to bring your binoculars and smart phones and DSLRs.
