Upcoming Astronomy Events

As a service to our community, Sky & Telescope lists astronomy-related events, including star parties, observatory public nights, astronomy talks, and more. Star parties offer dark skies and astronomical fellowship and often cater to families and feature special activities for kids. Public nights give the general public a chance to view the sky through large telescopes, and public talks are a great place to learn the fundamentals of the science and the craft.
You’ll also see online events offered here.
And if you’d like free copies of Sky & Telescope‘s Let’s Go Stargazing flyer or door prizes for your next star party, you can fill out this form.

Deep Sky Gazes at Big Lagoon State Park

October 7, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 11:00 pm CDT

Event Series Event Series (See All)
$6

For the Fall and Winter of 2023-24, the Escambia Amateur Astronomers return to Big Lagoon State Park for public stargazes on Saturday evenings of the first and thrid quarter moons. The Floirda State Parks require you to check in at the gate before sunset; the gaze is free, but normal park fees still apply ($6 per car). We set up at the amphitheater, all the way to the end of the access road past the Governor's Pavilion. We set up a vareity of telescopes for both visual and phootgraphic use, set up for smartphone access, and will teach you to use apps like Unistellar, Dwarflabs, Nocturne, and SeeStar to access our images and control our telescopes. We will have Jupiter and Saturn out, as well as the moon at first quarter, and deep skies at third quarter for imaging the constellations, deep sky objects, satellites, and meteor showers. WE provide sky charts and conduct Sky Interpretation to introduce the constellations and brighter stars to novices. Bring your own binoculars and telescopes and cameras for tips on using them to take outstanding astrophotos, and posting them to the EAAA facebook gallery.
