Upcoming Astronomy Events
As a service to our community, Sky & Telescope lists astronomy-related events, including star parties, observatory public nights, astronomy talks, and more. Star parties offer dark skies and astronomical fellowship and often cater to families and feature special activities for kids. Public nights give the general public a chance to view the sky through large telescopes, and public talks are a great place to learn the fundamentals of the science and the craft.
You’ll also see online events offered here.
And if you’d like free copies of Sky & Telescope‘s Let’s Go Stargazing flyer or door prizes for your next star party, you can fill out this form.
Deep Sky Gazes at Big Lagoon State Park
On the Saturdays closest to the thihrd quarter moon, the Escambia Amateur Astronomers host deep sky sgtar gazes at Big Lagoon State Park. You must check in the gate before sunset, and there is a $6 per car admission fee, but these are the darkest skies along the Gulf Coast easily accessible to the public. We set up scopes of many sizes and prices, and allow you to observe and photograph the heavens with your smartphones (come with good battery life and LOTS of space for great deep sky shots!). We also give out free star charts, conduct sky interpretation sessions, and observe satellite passes. Great fun for the whole family,
