Upcoming Astronomy Events
As a service to our community, Sky & Telescope lists astronomy-related events, including star parties, observatory public nights, astronomy talks, and more. Star parties offer dark skies and astronomical fellowship and often cater to families and feature special activities for kids. Public nights give the general public a chance to view the sky through large telescopes, and public talks are a great place to learn the fundamentals of the science and the craft.
You’ll also see online events offered here.

Star Gazing Under the Night Sky
An evening of discovery with the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum.
The City of College Park is excited to host, in partnership with the National Air and Space Museum (NASM), a special evening of stargazing and hands-on astronomy experiences. Residents and visitors of all ages are invited to join NASM educators and astronomy enthusiasts for a fun and educational night under the stars.
This community event offers the opportunity to explore the night sky through telescope viewing, interactive demonstrations, and hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and wonder. NASM staff will be on site with a collection of their telescopes and equipment, guiding participants as they observe celestial features and learn more about astronomy in an engaging, approachable way. Whether you’re new to stargazing or already fascinated by space, this experience is welcoming and accessible for all.
A NIGHT OF DISCOVERY
The event will take place on Friday, March 27, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Calvert Hills Playground & Field, located at 4601 Calvert Road. Admission is free, and no tickets or reservations are required.
PLAN AHEAD
Outdoor viewing is weather permitting. If weather conditions are not favorable for stargazing, NASM demonstrations and activities will take place inside City Hall, ensuring the event continues rain or shine. Guests are encouraged to dress warmly, wear comfortable shoes, and bring layers, as temperatures may drop after sunset.
