Of course we’d think that Sky & Telescope’s Pocket Sky Atlas ($19.95) is a good idea; why else would we have published it? But when the first copies rolled off the press and editors took them home to use, it happened to be a clear, new-Moon weekend. Conversations around the water cooler on Monday morning were all about the atlas. Of special note were the rave reviews from folks who hadn’t been intimately connected with the atlas’s creation. It’s quickly become the atlas of choice whenever one of us is headed outside for naked-eye or binocular observing. And it’s also a favorite for anyone using a telescope with a red-dot finder. One editor even reported hunting down more than 60 galaxies in the Virgo cluster in an hour and a half using just one of the atlas’s 84 charts. We think you’ll like it as much as we do.
