Equipment:

(bottom) Orion ED80T CF apo., with 0.8X Televue ff/fr, Kedrick white-light solar filter & Canon 700D DSLR; (top solar) - 80MM, f/5 Celestron 'short-tube', homemade Baader solar filter, ASI290MC with (from left to right respectively), luminance, ultraviolet, infrared & methane filters; (top horizon & solar pillar) - Canon 350D DSLR with EF-S 18-55mm lens

Description:

With the solar pillar prior to sunrise, the low altitude resulting in the 'moon illusion' making the Sun's disk appear gigantic as it silhouetted the trees on the horizon, the high thin cirrus clouds causing it to take on a look that reminded us of a gas giant planet, and the bald eagles flying over the lake - it was an event I will never forget !
