Description:
Moments after C3, Baily's beads became visible along the west limb of the sun. These are the first areas of photosphere revealed after totality as they shine through valleys between mountains on the moon's western limb. They were named after Francis Baily, who actually observed them during an annular rather than a total solar eclipse. Like the Baily's beads seen on the east limb of the sun before C2, the beads occurred in an area rich with beautiful prominences which makes for a dramatic image. Another prominence is visible along the 3 o'clock radial of the sun's western limb.
