Upcoming Astronomy Events

As a service to our community, Sky & Telescope lists astronomy-related events, including star parties, observatory public nights, astronomy talks, and more. Star parties offer dark skies and astronomical fellowship and often cater to families and feature special activities for kids. Public nights give the general public a chance to view the sky through large telescopes, and public talks are a great place to learn the fundamentals of the science and the craft.
You’ll also see online events offered here.
And if you’d like free copies of Sky & Telescope‘s Let’s Go Stargazing flyer or door prizes for your next star party, you can fill out this form.

AAVSO How-to Hour: Your First Observatory--Keep it Simple!

June 5, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

Free

An online discussion for those that want a more elaborate home observing set up than binoculars or a telescope and computer, Richard Berry, AAVSO's Instrumentation & Equipment Observing Section leader, will discuss making your first observatory inexpensive, simple, and easy to use. Its purpose: to be the place you call your own, offering minimal set-up time and maximal convenience. For example, a simple L-shaped fence can shelter you from wind and stray light, while a small concrete pad with an electric outlet can make set up fast and the alignment accurate. After getting started with a simple observatory, you can build on the experience as you plan a fancier shelter, roll-off roof, or domed observatory.
