We've curated a selection of some of the best eclipse images our readers submitted to our online gallery.

Last updated 08/25/2017

It’s been 99 years since a total solar eclipse last crossed the United States from coast to coast. Almost a century ago, there wasn’t that much observing gear available to immortalize the event, so this time we counted with Sky & Telescope’s community to take some amazing eclipse pictures! We have been encouraging all of you to send us your images for a while now, and we are happy to be seeing some impressive shots. We are putting some of our favorite submissions together in this slideshow so we all can enjoy them. However, all user submitted photos of the eclipse are available in our online gallery.

We are enjoying the variety of shots we are receiving. Among our favorite images, there are some great views of the Sun’s corona, impressive captures of Baily's beads, a nice view of sunspots as the Sun hides behind the Moon, and even a beautiful diamond ring. Submitters also used a wide variety of observing gear, as we are seeing images taken with all sorts of equipment, from smartphone cameras to advanced camera and telescope set-ups.

The eclipse traveled across the U.S. casting its shadow over 14 states along the path of totality. We are receiving images from many of those states and also from places that only witnessed partial views of the eclipse.

Great photos are still coming in, and we will be updating this slideshow as they continue to do so over the following days. Check back often for the latest updates!

And, if you took a great image yourself during the eclipse or have a great story to share, please send it to our online gallery. We will be glad to see and hear from you!

In one word:- WOW!!

What an effort.
Still more pics to come (I can hardly wait).
Thrilled that you folk had such perfect weather for the big day.
I'm impressed!

Whilst you lot were watching the Total Eclipse:- I was stationed down in the antipodes, looking at Comet C/2017 O1 (ASASSN) and listening to the live Eclipse radio feeds from the USA. Two for the price of one...

Regards to all.

Great photos!
I really like the one where you can make out features on the moon!

Does anyone have a good photo that shows the nearby stars. I would love to use it to verify the gravitational shift of light. I could not make it to a total ellipse location.

I think the Pilgrim Eclipse is not from 2017 or is a composite: the eclipse was not visible in Spain.

The eclipse was about 25% at sunset from Santiago in north-western Spain. See https://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEplot/SEplot2001/SE2017Aug21T.GIF.
